When I pull up in my car, James shoots me a smile that makes him look like the bad guy from one of those cheesy bad movies. I don't get how no one else sees it. He's so clearly the bad guy, and yet, people worship the ground he walks on.

He sent me an address last night after Sophia and I fell asleep. When I woke up this morning with Sophia still cuddled against me, I considered ignoring his text and staying in bed with her. But, I know that my plan isn't squeaky yet. I need to play along until I know exactly what I'm going to be doing and when. Then, my revenge will take place. For now, I'll assume the role of his weak puppet. I know it won't be for much longer.

I wonder what Mom is up to; I usually see her in the mornings. I hope she's not concerned. She and Sophia are the only reasons that I'm waiting for my revenge. If I fell short, and anything happened to either of them, that would kill me.

"Good morning, Theodore," James quips, adjusting the cufflinks on his suit as he sizes me up.

Gunther and Crow flank him. Instead of the rugged clothing they usually wear, they're dressed in white button-down shirts and nice fitting black dress pants. But, some of their tattoos peak through, and their cold eyes don't hide what they're really here for.

Even though most of the city loves James, a couple of people would love nothing more than to hurt him. In the past, I used to hope that someone would be brave enough to actually do it. I figured it would save me time, and I wouldn't get my hands dirty.

But now, I don't wish that anymore. I've been dreaming about breaking the cocky smile James is sending my way now. And I want to do it with my own hands.

Reporters swarm on the other side of the fence. The press conference is going to be starting in fifteen minutes. James' personal assistant, Miles, is fretting over the last of the stage setup details. As he futzes with a chair, James snaps him over.

"Miles, find something for my stepson to wear so that he doesn't look like he just crawled out of a gutter."

I smirk, glad that my outfit made its intended mark. Instead of dressing in a suit like James wanted, I showed up in the same black shirt and black jeans I wore last night. James hates it when my tattoos are out, and he's always forbidden me to show them whenever we're on camera together. Even though it's a low jab, I still like seeing his frustration.

While Miles storms off to follow James' order, James steps closer to me. Gunther and Crow follow him until the three of them are backing me into a corner.

"Are you forgetting about your friend, Sophia?" James asks in a low voice.

I try to keep my face neutral when he mentions her name, but I want nothing more than to reach out and snap his neck right then and there.
